KADO Develop Hunza

Mar 05, 2009 – Hunza valley is popularly believed to be the inspiration for the mythical valley of Shangri-la in James Hilton's 1933 novel Lost Horizon. The 7,900 km² {3,050 mi²) territory of Hunza locates at an elevation of 2,438 to 4,870 metres. The fifty two thousand (60,000) inhabitants living in 6500 households within 45 highly scattered villages. The valley is bounded by Wakhan Corridor (Afghanistan)
in the north, Xingjian (China) in the north / northeast, Nagar Valley in the south / southeast.The valley offers spectacular combinations of soaring peaks, deep and steep gorges, singing streams, awe-inspiring lakes, wooded slopes and captivating flora and fauna, educated and cultured people and fertile lands. The people speak Burushaski, Wakhi, Shina and Dommaki languages.

Administratively Hunza is a subdivision within the Gilgit district of Northern Areas of Pakistan. The Assistant Commissioner Hunza is responsible to look after the whole territory divided into two Tehsils; Aliabad and Gulmit. Aliabad is the headquarter of the Hunza sub-division.

The office of AC is responsible for the maintenance of law and order in the valley in collaboration of other government and local functionaries. The entire development projects and infrastructures are being directly or indirectly supervised by the office. The office plays a major role in decision making and planning for the future development of communities. It is also responsible for maintaining a smooth relation among different institutions active in the valley.

The evolutions of information and communication technologies have revolutionized the citizen-oriented governance system in developed countries. With the rise in awareness levels and education, the communities also demands to be involved in the process of governance and to receive a higher standard of service and care from their Government authorities. In the quest to become more responsive and accessible, the office of Assistant Commissioner, Hunza and Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO) is looking to test the efficacy of IT in assuring accountability, improving transparency, administrative efficiency and service delivery mechanisms by providing accurate and speedy information to citizens for a more informed and inclusive development.
